A historical competition of clear medieval style, which normally takes place twice a year: on July 2 in honor of the Madonna of Provenzano, and on August 16 that in honor of the Madonna dell'Assunta. The uniqueness and the spectacular make this event the most important historical event in Italy. The Palio has been running continuously for more than 100 years, so we can not speak of a historical re-enactment, but of a real popular party, felt as never before by the participants and by the public that follows it. Protagonists of the Palio, the 17 city districts: Bruco, Aquila, Civetta, Chiocciola, Drago, Giraffa, Porcupine, Leocorno, Lupa, Nicchio, Goose, Onda, Pantera, Selva, Tartuca, Torre and Valdimontone; every year, however, there are only 10 districts that can participate in the competition: the 7 districts excluded the previous year and 3 drawn by lot. The Palio di Siena trophy awarded to the winning contrada is called drappellone or also "cencio" and consists of a painting on silk and has the dimensions of an elongated rectangle. The program contains the archive with the victories of all the districts from 1644 to today. Do you remember which contrada won the Palio di Siena on July 2, 1986?
